Pharaoh's room done for now

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Saturday, June 13, 2020, In : News
Pharaoh's room was quite the challenge and I spoke about this before. Since he was a royal and thought himself a literal god, I can promise you he wanted the best of the best and wanted you to throw that away and get something even better! lol. No, just kidding. I don't know how much of a brat he was. For all I know he actually cared much for his people, but had a prideful and fearful heart that caused his irrational choices - apart from GOD hardening his heart - which is still quite a myster...

Abaddon - The Destroyer

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Thursday, April 16, 2020, In : Teaching
Listen to the post:

Hey all!

So yesterday, my cousin and I were talking about the end times and a teaching we had listened to earlier in the week concerning the same, and I recalled the part in Exodus 12 (thank YOU LORD) about the destroyer, so I did a little digging to see if the mention on Revelation is the same from Exodus.
Let's start with these:

"And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
And he opened the...

Slow and somewhat steady

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Monday, December 30, 2019, In : General
Hey all!

I'm still on pharaoh's room and while most of it is organized and set to receive some frogs, including Pharaoh, I am still at a bit of a loss as to what to do with the open area left. You could say his room is "half full" hehehe.

So, on that note, let's focus on something that is finished and that is Pharaoh's hand mirror. Now, they didn't have mirrors like we do today and I did some extra digging:

Pharaoh's room

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, In : News
Hey all!

As you all know, we are still at the frog plague (thankfully not for lack of work on Exodus itself, hehe). To be more precise, we are at the point where the plague continues over night, because the conversation went like this:

"And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only? And he said, To morrow. And he said, Be it according to th...

Hey all!

Long time no post, hehe.

I'm glad to say that Exodus is not a project that has been dropped by any means. I just have a lot on my plate and I'm actually working on an aspect of it that I really want to share with you guys!

For a while now, I really have felt that the LORD wants me to write original music. Considering that I have basically 0 experience writing songs, this was not something that I jumped into with confidence. In fact, I didn't. While going for piano lessons, I learned how...

How was V.I in converting stereo

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Friday, November 2, 2018, In : General
Hey all!

Years ago, we had an LG sound system. 5.1 to be precise. What baffled me is that it only had a stereo input, yet when that thing gave out it's 5.1, whoah! It sounded so beautiful and full. I luvd the sound that came from that system, until...

Yes, until thunder struck it and that was the end of the awesome sound it produced... hahahaha. I remember putting on some music DVD's I had with a 5.1 mix and sitting square center in the living room floor to just take it in! It was so phenomenal...

Hey all!

I bet you thought I stopped working on Exodus and that it is a tower to defeat, NOPE! Still working hard. The only hold up was that GOD had me take a short break from it to release the node groups and even then I didn't really stop thinking about it. Check out the node groups video and link:

So how far am I?

Hey all!
This week's vlog!

GOD is beyond words!!! Just wow!!

 - Re-Rendering a lot...of the same, haha
Like the last time I got to vlog, these weeks contained a lot of re-rendering. With the new 10-layer method, it means that some scenes have too many artifacts... I tried rendering some shots with it to get a much sharper result, but honestly, some shots are only going to be as good as they are with the methods I currently have at my disposal. A lot of re-rendering has occurred these weeks. On...

Week of the ReRender

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Thursday, February 22, 2018, In : WIP
Hey all!
This week's vlog!

GOD is so wonderful!!

 - Re-Rendering a lot
Like I mentioned in the video, after seeing the issues with the upscaling (after noise reduction and even doing them together), I re-rendered the shot like GOD wanted in the first place. HE did give me leave to keep it as-is and just noise reduce and later upscale, but you really lose out on quality... It's like the smear between DVD and VHS - it's really obvious - not indetail, but in overall finish.
   Which leads me to my...

Hey all!
This week's vlog!

GOD is beyond words!!! Just wow!!

 - Rendering to video
After finishing the vlog, I wanted to create the thumbnail for the video and of course, every week I use something from that week to make it and I found nothing in the 2DHD folder when I looked in it in Gimp and when I double checked the rendering itself, guess what, it was rendering to video at only 6000kbps!!!!!!! I had missed switching it back from doing the OpenGL tests (which I render straight to video - no...

This week's vlog!

GOD is so good!!

 - Broken legs no more
Last week during recording, GOD gave me a solution to the frog problem - that I shared with you guys. This week, HE gave me another one as it relates to random frog rotation. With the first fix - the legs remain perfect, but they can only go in one direction. The fix in the week fixed the legs and they can go in any direction. Both fixes have their place. The first one allows you to have all your frogs go in the same direction....

Hey all!
This week's vlog!

GOD is beyond words!!! Just wow!!
 - Broken legs?!
I am happy to say that I am not talking about my own legs here, haha. Whenever the frogs jumped in the floor footage, their IK's would lag behind and because of overall rotation, the legs would break and unbreak with every jump. This week I'm aiming to fix it, because just after the recording, GOD gave me the solution and I edited it in. So keep an eye out for that!

I am happy to say that I didn't even touch these this week. I did however find a problem with the documentation page. It kept breaking and I didn't know why until GOD showed me something very interesting. I started looking at the formatting and the images and as I scrolled down the page, I saw that the one image was broken halfway down - the brownish anisotropic toon shader example.    I am so thankful to be on this project! It does take up a lot of time, but in the end all that time will be more than made up with the much faster render time - not to mention the multiplied decades saved for other users as well!

GOD is so wonderful!!

 - Frog problems
Now I spoke about the frogs two weeks ago. While the frog was finished ito modelling, there were some serious issues with the rig. You'll remember that the eyes were heavily drooped as a result. Now, personally, I don't have a problem with droopy eyes (mine are a little droopy too, hehe), but this was borderline terrified or extremely disappointed. So it had to be fixed.
I noticed a few things.

Generally, most movies would get someone to do what is known as scoring. When you score something, it can be a goal too, but not in music, haha. In music, you are simply writing the coordination for a symphony or orchestra or whatever set you envision for the particular part of the film or production.

GOD is so great!

 - Frog choice
So, it was sooooo long ago, how do we know what frog to use. Well, honestly and truly, we depend on the leading of the HOLY SPIRIT to make the absolute best selection possible. There was nothing to say what kind of frogs you would typically find in Egypt ...

The DeFocus node is a very very useful tool in Blender. It allows you to get that filmic look, where the focus of the scene shifts from the background to the foreground or vice versa. The bigger issues

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Thursday, May 11, 2017, In : WIP
Hey all!

This week's vlog:

GOD is so great!

 - The Angel Of The LORD = The Destroyer = JESUS?
Kinda insulting if you think about it, hahaha. JESUS specifically said: "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." Luke 19:10, KJV. To call JESUS a destroyer is a stretch. Not to mention that "the destroyer" isn't capitalized.
I've also read that some think this is the Angel Of The LORD, but again, no capitalization and we're not even told that this is an angel. I did read...

Anime in 3D

Hey all!

This week's vlog!!!

GOD is so amazing!!!!

 - Anime and 3D
Oh yes, we're kicking off with the main point of this week's video, which ironically only took a bit of the afternoon and a piece of the evening! haha.
Anime and 3D seem to be at odds with one another in various ways, but particularly in frame rate. There are scenes in anime that get the full 24fps treatment and then there are those, where the head is perfectly still for like 2 or three seconds and only the lips and eyes move...

Hey all!

This week's vlog!!!

GOD is so awesome!
 - Herbs and fruit trees
In Exodus, GOD specifically makes mention of herbs. I was really in the dark about what they would define as herbs, for the simple reason that I don't know plants all that well. I do know what a fruit tree is and I can see the difference between it and mint, for example, but I don't know what technically qualifies and herb. For example, you also get the ever ambiguous tomato, haha. So, I felt led to simply check out the d...

GOD is so awesome!

I am so thankful I got to finish it this week! It looked like a big thing to complete and while it took a while, I'm very happy with the result. I cannot emphasize what a difference it makes to storyboard something before jumping into it. GOD really gives you so many ideas that it's stunning! Too many to use and you know exactly which one is the right one! GOD is so good!!

GOD is super awesome!!

Obviously I've written about this a few times and I am so thankful that GOD made this week stand out among others! In two days HE helped me draw 81 or 82 frames for the storyboards (that excludes the few I had to leave out because of error or poor drawing, hahaha) and a new tutorial for Cycles. I cannot say thank YOU enough!! GOD is so good!!

Rough storyboards

Hey all!

This weeks vlog!!!

GOD is so awesome!!!

 - Lice in and on?
This week I saw another one of those "contradictions". This one follows two verses:

"And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt. And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast....

Hey all!

This week's vlog!!
GOD is super amazing!

 - Apparent contradictions
In the Bible there are many so-called contradictions. Many of these are purely based on information that's not there or that seems to conflict. In this post, and the video, I get to focus on one I came across this week in regards to Pharaoh's livestock. In the murrain plague, it clearly states that all of Pharaoh's cattle died (meaning all his livestock, not just cows and oxen), but nothing of Israel's died. Later, in th...

Hey all!

This week's vlog:

GOD is super awesome!!

 - Three days' journey and JESUS
JESUS is called by many names or titles, but one of those is that HE is the only begotten Son of GOD. In Exodus, GOD called Jacob (Israel) HIS firstborn, because JESUS is the vine and we are the branches. The Jews were the first nation that GOD chose, not because they were the best, but because they were the most difficult of all nations. Not to be insulting, but it's by HIS own words and HE even said that when ...

Hey all!

This weeks vlog!!

GOD is so amazing!

 - 7 days passing and other plagues
I don't recall having spoken about this in a previous vlog, but since we're on the screenplay and storyboards phase, with some experimentation and even final renders, I do find this to be a bit of an issue. We only have a single indication of how long a plague lasted and that is in the last verse of chapter 7 which reads:

"And seven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had smitten the river." Exodus 7:25, KJV

GOD is so awesome!!

 - Very little time this week
I had an amazing week. I got to go visit my cousin over the weekend and got to some much needed garden and house work, so this week, I literally had only 1 afternoon and an evening, haha. GOD made it such a productive afternoon - it was just amazing! I still felt pulled to procrastinate, but it was much less than usual.

Hey all!

This week's vlog!!!

GOD is super awesome!!! Very very productive week!!

 - Story boarding
I'm the kinda person that wants to just jump in and do it, but even for Esther I didn't do that. I did for Genesis and I believe that's why it wasn't visually as strong as these are so far. Just do storyboards. If you are making anything you want to have a coherent flow to it, you really need to plan the shots out. Take it from someone who wanted to skip it! After the bulls I was stumped, I thought I had done a lot more during the week and GOD just told me to go get breakfast and relax and HE'll show me what I missed and it wasn't that I didn't show it all, but I didn't mention it all. This week's vlog!!

GOD is so incredible!!

 - Fields and detail
A bit of a touchy subject for me, because I wanted to be able to render the wheat in it's physical, or at least, plane form, but for this scale of scene and my PC, I am so thankful GOD gave me this solution!! It works beautifully! Part of what HE used to inspire this particular idea, was Superbook's clip of Ruth gleaning in Boaz's field (they did a stunning wide shot of the field). They could put a lot more physical detail...

Yeah, I really underestimated the amount of work that was left to get them ready for that, haha. Some of the characters didn't have expressions. I was really really irritated by how little I got done and felt like it would take me 10 years to finish at that pace and GOD showed me that the days I chose to do certain tasks were out of wack and not only that, but watching a lot of videos online also stole hours, along with Facebook news feed scro...

I want to have my backgrounds appear painterly and while there are many ways to get close to it, I have not had the leading on it that GOD would help me get it in an evening or something. Now, this is a bit of a topic for me that I really try to avoid, as it's editing is really not as straight forward as I would like it to be, but it certainly not a bad thing. The snake was the first thing to be dealt with this week. I spent quite a large amount of time on it in the attempts to re-rig it and see if the kink goes away, but the conclusion, as in the video, was that it was only reduced, but did not go away. What did make it go away was animating the head using the 3D cursor. When the head goes forward, the neck is kept straight, but this makes the nose point towards the ground. Just til...

This week, the focus has been on the king's room. For me, this is incredibly difficult, because I find no info on traditional Persian interiors. I do know that they did do a lot of things the same way as the Indians did - lots of arches, pillows, low to the floor furniture, etc., but honestly, I don't know to what extent this is the case, so I have to follow peace and ironically, it has made for quite a modern appearance.

Hey all!

Haha, talk about a call to action in that title! haha.

This week's update is not as huge as last week's, because GOD put me on a few other things for half of the week (and quite frankly I was super tired), but last night I got some more things done and I get to share with you all some of the other things and they will actually give you a little something to try out! :D

So, first things first!

 - Textured building
On the last post, I got to show you the WIP of a building that, turns out, w...

For Anime Tutorial series 1 - Water Reflections

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Monday, February 8, 2016, In : Tutorials and tips
Hey all!

I have had this on my heart for quite a while, to do a series on modelling for anime style backgrounds. In this one, we look at Water Reflections:

(Very short and very straight forward)

Now, this is also a very simplistic way of doing these sort of reflections. In fact, this is just when water flows in a straight line. If you have water that goes around bends, you need to adapt this and unwrap your river and toss out the empty and use the texture offset options. To show you how this wor...

Gardens galore

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Thursday, February 4, 2016, In : General
Hey all!

Today's progress update is rife with huge updates and a few more speed up tips and some general tips as well! :D

To start off, I would like to talk about the additional speed up tips GOD gave me through this week. I cannot even begin to express my gratitude!! I definitely think that a single frame would have taken 12 to 20 minutes to complete, had HE not teach me all these tricks!!

 - ZTransparency
Yesterday, GOD had me do a post on how to fix the edge problem with ZTransparency. I'm not...

Render times and progress

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Thursday, January 28, 2016, In : General
Hey all!

Super excited to be sharing with you guys the progress from the last week. Passed few days have not been the most productive, but ironically, the focus was in a different direction this week, but you'll see on that later.

 - Verse Image -
First, I felt lead to make use of the project and it's assets to create this week's verse image and I really liked the result. Because my hosting is not that big, I'm trying to limit the content I post, so I'm simply linking to the Cross Allegiance pa...

Update time

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, In : General
Hey all!

As you've noticed, I've been a bit quiet. It's not because I haven't been working, but because GOD suggested that I update less. I was really frustrated because of the time it takes to write these so often - I like keeping you guys up to date, just not every 5mins, hahaha. If I do, the project takes significantly longer than it needs to, so, here is the first gapped update :)!

Okay, let's start with the coolest things GOD showed me that make this project even possible:

1) Particles:

Compositing in order WIP

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, In : WIP
Good day everyone!

Today is nothing super fancy. I just get to share an update on Mordecai and Haman going through the city street. In this case, I stuck pillars in, so there would be something casting shadows on them too (you can see it on Mordecai's shoulder). The goal is to go for unusual contrast and a painterly look. I like the result though.

Still a long way to go

For more info on this particular method of compositing smooth shadows with toon shading, check out my tutorial for Blender Rend...

Mordecai's ride

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Monday, January 11, 2016, In : WIP
Hey all!!

After so much work, it's hard to see him finally on the horse, but immensely satisfying. GOD is awesome!!! :D

He looks great and he looks like he's having a blast - which is what I believe it should look like. It was an honor GOD bestowed on him as part of his vindication from the hands of Haman.

There are still a few things to fix here - such as the horse's front legs' weight painting. The bones specifically. The cloth below the saddle doesn't have strong enough weights, so when the s...

Turn that table

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Saturday, January 9, 2016, In : General
Hey all!

Initially, I had the horse rotating on a platform, but because of issues with the one front leg on the ground, I just attached everything else to the platform he's on and now everything is rotating except the horse, but you wouldn't know it, unless I told you, which I now did, hahaha.

Anyway, this is how the horse looks when rendered using the viewport in Blender:

This animation, as if you didn't notice, is called a turntable. Mostly these are used to show off a model. Think of it as ...

Leg Fixed

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, In : WIP
Hey all!

Yesterday, I shared some progress with you all about the horse and his legs, the front ones particularly and today, I get to share with you, what they look like fixed!

(There was no issue with the rig)

The problem came in with how the front legs were modelled. Usually, horses have front legs that have the individual parts distinguishable by really prominent joints, so you could say all the individual pieces have an almost hour-glass like shape (thick>thin>thick). After thinning out the ...

Horse WIP continues

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, In : WIP
Good day everyone!

I have another post for you all today on the horse - yes, it's still not done and when you see the image, you will know why, hahaha.

As many of you know, horses have legs that move a certain way. If their legs don't move that way, they look funny. Through a lot of reference, GOD has helped me put this render together, after some serious rigging (and it wasn't even done yet!!):

(Still some adjustment that can be made to the weight painting to make it look better, but you would ...

Horse WIP

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Friday, January 1, 2016, In : WIP
Hey everyone!

Today I got to work on the horse again and GOD was so faithful, as usual, haha, and I'm so happy with the results. I tried giving the horse more typically anime eyes, but that made it look more cartooney and character-like than a functional horse. So anyway, while there is still a solid amount of character in the eyes, they are not nearly as cartooney as they get when you add those black outlines, haha.

So without further ado, I'm going to let you see it below, starting with the v...

Haman progress

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Thursday, December 31, 2015, In : General
Hey all!

On the last day of 2015, I would like to share the progress on one of the characters for Esther 6; Haman! While he is an evil character, I wanted him to be able to look very trustworthy and at the same time quite shifty, because of his ambition.
Trustworthy because the king trusted his advice and shifty, because his ego was the cause of his downfall through all his schemes against Mordecai.

So, here are some of the progress shots for Haman the Agagite:

Before shape changes

Horse progress

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, In : WIP
Hey all!

When we last left Mordecai, he was absolutely horseless. That means his voice was clear, hahaha, no. The king's horse had to be brought for him to ride on. He already got the king's outfit and now was the time for the horse to be given as well.

Since the king doesn't even exists as a character on my PC yet, he was in no position to own a horse, so I had to make one, haha.

These are how the horse progressed to it's current wip status:

And finally, where it is as of this morning!

Lookin' sharp

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Saturday, December 19, 2015, In : WIP
Hey all!

Just gotta share this with you guys - Mordecai looks sharp in the king's clothes!

(I think this looks so cool! GOD is such an awesome designer!!!!!!)

This was done using Make Human and Blender and a lot of work! GOD lead me a different way with his outfit than the master painters of old did, but I'm glad HE did, because to me this looks soooooooooo cool!

Have a great one and GOD bless!!

Mordecai Progress

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Thursday, December 17, 2015, In : WIP
Hey all!

Today, despite Esther 6 not being done yet, I felt lead to publish the site, so I hope that you are still blessed by what you see here.

Today, with this publishing, I also feel lead to share with you the progress on Mordecai. In Esther 6, you only see him once and that is when Haaman has to parade him in a display of honor through the streets, so he has to look fancy. I may change the head dress to be more fancy, but in general, this is the kind the jews apparently wore, called a mookl...

Tutorials available

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Friday, November 27, 2015, In : Tutorials and tips
Good day,

I would really like to tell you guys a little more about my YouTube channel tutorials and other tutorials. I feel lead to do this, so please bear with me, haha.

Over the last year, GOD has taught me an immense amount about Blender and how to use it for the style of animation you see here in development. The great part about that, is that HE's insistent on me sharing this knowledge with you and so, a YouTube channel that was once practically abandoned is now alive with tutorials you ar...
