Hey all!

This weeks vlog!!!

GOD is so awesome!!!

 - Lice in and on?
This week I saw another one of those "contradictions". This one follows two verses:

"And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt. And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast."
Exodus 8:17-18, KJV

I did a little digging while writing this post and I came across this verse:

"He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts."
Psalm 105:31, KJV

That already gives us diversity - that it's not just one thing, but a variety of different animals that fall into that same category. Secondly, the word for lice used here, is translated, with StudyLight, as gnat or gnat-swarm. So I looked at what lice would've been at the time the KJV was compiled with the Miriam Webster Dictionary. According to it, lice are:

"LICE, plural of louse"
Noah Webster's American Dictionary of the English Language,
published in 1828

That means we need to go see what a louse would be. By today's definition lice are lice and they have their own classification, but a lot of the discoveries concerning both ticks and lice were made in the 1800's. So it is possible that at the time that Moses wrote Exodus, they may have lumped them all together, seeing that they look a lot alike. There are some ticks that bury into the skin to get to the blood. This will make them be both in and on and will also explain why the "lice" were both on man and beast. The typical lice that people get, do not transfer to animals - they are a human parasite. Interesting, very interesting. I still need to do some digging, but that's the best solution I got so far - and it is plausible as the Egyptians were extremely aware of head lice and wore wigs to help with hygiene in this regard. Not to mention they were a farming country with plenty of gnats and lice, so it's very possible they lumped many different species into the same category and called them the same thing - like feline referring to cat, lion, tiger, etc.

Evidence for that in English can be seen in the definition of gnat (also refers to a mosquito or something small).

GNAT, n. nat. A small insect, or rather a genus of insects, the Culex, whose long cylindric body is composed of eight rings. They have six legs and their mouth is formed by a flexible sheath, inclosing bristles pointed like stings. The sting is a tube containing five or six spicula of exquisite fineness, dentated or edged. The most troublesome of this genus is the musketoe.

1. Any thing proverbially small.

Ye blind guides, who strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. Matt.23.

Noah Webster's American Dictionary of the English Language,
published in 1828

Very very interesting to consider that lice and mosquitoes were once considered to be in the same category! Where do I get that from? From the fact that the Miriam Webster shows lice as lice and the KJV talks about lice, which is translated lice from the word for gnat in the Hebrew - lumped together. That means, by today's standard mix with then, you get gnat = mosquito = louse. The irony here is that this can also include fleas and mites.
There is specifically a type of flea, known as the sand flea, that buries itself in skin (not unknown to Africa either). Scabies, a kind of mite infestation, is also a parasite that lives under the skin (this one would be unlikely, seeing that infection would have to happen a month or so before symptoms may show - depending on the kind).

In conclusion, it really, again, can easily be both in and on.

 - Intro
The intro is something I really want short and sweet, but also to build some drama and drop the viewer right in the middle of the narrative. I do consider the use of hieroglyphics very cool in this regard, but they were also over-used in this genre and theme. I'd like to reference it, but in a fresher way. Totally depending on GOD and I already have a different idea that I haven't seen before, so yey! :D

 - Length
The length so far is just under 10mins, but will definitely be a bit longer for the current sequence (especially if you include the intro) and that also means the final could stretch to 40mins. I would hope not further than that. We'll see what GOD does. I want it accurate, as I've said before, without adding info that isn't there.

 - Voices
This is an issue for me. I really do feel like GOD wants me to learn how to direct people as well and I have never done that in my life (in this way), so I'm honest when I say that I am apprehensive about asking people. The people I want to ask all have different ways of recording and I really don't want one voice to sound more telephonic than the other - there has to be consistency and a sincere lack of editing on their part, so I have more control over the final mix. I'll keep this before HIM and if HE asks me to ask them, I will, I'm just apprehensive (both for myself directing and for possibly having to turn someone down for a role...).
