Reptilian enough

Hey all!
This week's vlog!

GOD is so great!

 - Wind sound
Of course, the grasshoppers are still a way off, but whenever I do get the chance to, I like to make the sounds that will come up. That way when the time comes I can just throw them into the edit - keeps the work going. Anyway, last week I spoke about using tape for wind noise and this week (recorded it last week) I got to edit it!! Yay!! It sounds a bit repetitive in a way, but honestly, I absolutely luv how it turned out! GOD is so awesome! HE led me every step of the way with that sound.
 - click removal
 - cleaning it of contact noise and giggles (because you do feel silly swinging tape through the air like a horrible ballet dancer, hahaha) and  make it flow more by crossfading the cut areas
 - duplicate and spread of stereo by offsetting for wind direction. If the wind comes from the left, it should be heard first on the left.
 - duplicate again to reverb (normalize it and turn it down to the desired level - can actually generate some notes that sound creepy, so keep it really low)
 - duplicate again to pitch down (I did this twice - once just over an octave and once by over 50 semitones to get it sounding low enough to add presence)
 - duplicate the pitched down version and offset to spread across the stereo again for a wider sound

Oh, another thing I do very often is removing excess lower frequencies. Pretty much everything below 100Hz, because these visually affect the audio and the results of certain effects, so since they aren't really audible nor make any audible difference in the final, I chuck them completely for the most part. This helps with my personal setup, but you have to do what works for your recording equipment.

Of course, understanding and having heard the sound you're looking for is key to taking it apart and reconstructing it with "plastic" (or magnetic, haha) parts. So performance needs to be fitting too!

GOD was so awesome in helping me do.

  - Reptile sounds
I was very disappointed with lizard sounds this week. Not because they make sounds that don't fit them, but because they don't really sound like in Jurassic Park. Don't get me wrong, I luv the sounds they made in Jurassic park. I want dinosaurs to sound like that, but unfortunately, based on GOD's original design of reptiles and reptiles we see today, there is a possibility that they just hissed loudly. Conversely, thankfully, the other side is also a possibility (look at crocodiles for example - they can growl like it's nobody's business!) hahaha.

For the sake of interest, here are some lizard sounds:

A crocodile growl (very short growl that loops):

So, for the sake of being creative and that we already have an offensive display, I had to trust GOD to help me make some sounds that are actually fitting. I do feel these are very stereotypical, but they are quite that, because they do fit. For the lizard, I used the Jurassic Park method, which is to layer sounds to create a new growly screechy breathy kinda sound. Unfortunately, I don't have access to horses and dolphins and whales and and and. So, I used what I do have, my own throat and voice as well as my dog's! When we play, I let him chase me around my desk - he just luvs it. At first he growls at me like: "Come here or I'll come get you! :D " and sneezes a few times and then the chase is on, haha. Super fun! I just set up my tripod where he usually growls at me and just did the usual :D! He's super sweet and super cooperative - GOD is so good!!

With all the excitement layered with my guttural sounds combined with strong very breathy growls and a lot of editing, I got a sound that was waaaaaay too big, hahaha. Thankfully just reducing the bass dealt with that problem.

 - Self-consciousness
Whenever you are doing any recording of any kind, you will experience a level of self-consciousness. This is not a bad thing, because it is what the LORD put in us to keep us from embarrassing ourselves every time we put our feet out the door. Like everything good GOD made, the devil wants to twist it into something that will either harm you directly or just keep you from going forward. This week I struggled immensely with this. I had to record these sounds. I knew I needed to record this, but I was absolutely horrified. You will be amazed all you can find to do when you know you need to do something you don't feel comfortable doing. It's not that GOD didn't want me to record it. HE did and HE told me to, I just didn't want to, so I was folding bags in the kitchen, walking around the yard, working on other projects, doing pretty much anything to avoid recording, hahaha. A good safeguard was turned into a prison of fear. I was so scared of sounding like an idiot, but it turned out well. GOD will never tell you to do something, without giving you the ability to do it - as Joyce always says. And it is so - how can HE do anything else when HE is just.
While I was so busy stalling, HE gave me this verse too:

"And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me."
Mark 8:34, KJV

HE specifically quoted me the AMP rendering that says that we have to lose sight of ourselves and our own interests (denying self). I was so focused on how I would look after going all reptilian, that I couldn't do it. Waay too focused on self-preservation. For me, HE wanted another kind of dying to self. The verse in Mark specifically talks about living for yourself, saying yes to whatever you want, you feel and you think and saying no to that in order for you to live out GOD's desires for your life (faaaaaaaaar better btw). Even though it was not specifically what HE was talking about, it still applies if you read a bit further:

"Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."
Mark 8:38, KJV

Scary verse, but you can clearly see the fear of "what are people gonna think?!"
Doing what GOD tells us to do is extremely important regardless of what people will or won't think. Our goal should never be to offend people, but if you follow GOD's plan for your life, unfortunately you will offend people just because you don't agree on what they feel are core issues.

Don't let fear stop you if you know what GOD has told you you need to do - HE will be with you just like HE was with Jeremiah!

"But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD."
Jeremiah 1:7-8, KJV.

Anyhow, that is it for this week's post - big thanks to everyone who reads, comments and watches!

Biggest thanx to GOD for helping me with this. Without HIM, none of this would be possible! :D
