Pharaoh's room

Hey all!

As you all know, we are still at the frog plague (thankfully not for lack of work on Exodus itself, hehe). To be more precise, we are at the point where the plague continues over night, because the conversation went like this:

"And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only? And he said, To morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word: that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God."
Exodus 8:9-10, KJV.

Now, because Moses told him that they would go into his servants houses, I made that. Because Moses said that they would come into his house and upon his bed, I have to make that. Yes, indeed, I've been working on Pharaoh's bedroom. Shockingly, I find little to no info about what his room may have looked like. We'd like to imagine something lavish, but if you look at what can be considered a throne, I think we need to take our modern idea glasses off for a moment. While I do think he had the best that Egypt had to offer, I certainly don't think it was a room filled to the brim with stuff. The info I find suggests this is indeed the case - a modest arrangement of basic pieces so it was actually a place of rest - nice, simple, but elegant and that is what I'm going for.

What is still a mystery to me is whether Pharaoh had anything that resembles an armoir, but only shelves or possibly something like a book shelf. The reason this is so, is because the poorer people had storage and compartments and chests were nothing mysterious - I don't know if cabinets were to be honest. The LORD will lead me in due course!

In the meantime, I am working on the furniture that I can find and that does make sense to put in a bedroom, even if it is with modern idea glasses on, hehehe. So far, I have a fancy chair (researchers call them thrones) and a really nice table - these things take surprisingly long to make... I remember with the fish of the Nile, it also took me a day per fish (7 in all)...

GOD is so good!!

 - Music and sound effect search
We had quite a chunk of our annual data left, so to make the most of it before it could expire and just vanish, I went nuts looking for sounds and more possible music options! I even looked for music options beyond Exodus. At the end of the day, I have roughly 10hrs of music to edit into the remaining work for Exodus. I may even need to go look again if what I have doesn't fit.

Sound effects are harder to come by than you may imagine. Like I've spoken on this topic before, if you listen like a mic, you will get a sense of how hard it is to actually get clean sound and how hard it is to get certain sound effects, just because you don't have access to them.

Now, honestly, I would've loved to have been able to hand-record everything needed for Exodus, but this is just not gonna happen, because, again, I just don't have access to all the sounds I need, BUT, there are websites out there that have communities that do record various sounds and freesound.org is one.

I've known about them for years, but when someone on one of my videos commented with the link to them (Genesis 1, KJV, user: "PB M"), I decided to check them out again when I hit a wall with farm sounds and sure enough - they had everything I needed so far!

Since this is the case, I would love to return the favor, so I need to see what goes into Exodus and what does not, and what the publisher has to say about releasing assets. I think it would be awesome to release the assets of the movie I made and recorded in a royalty-free way - a portion into the public domain and a portion paid royalty-free. I can't promise anything, but I would love to!

So yeah, go check them out!

 -  The Last Plague
While looking for music, I thought about the plagues and also the last plague. I wanted something scary/angry, but not too much - there's only so much you can push before you practically invite the devil in.

What do I mean by that? Well, I thought the music I had chosen was too scary. Honestly, I don't think what I heard and chose could be too scary... Check out these verses:

"For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD."
Exodus 12:12, KJV.

"For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you."
Exodus 12:23, KJV.

"He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts. He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them. He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence; And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham: But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock."
Psalm 78:48-52, KJV.

The plagues followed:
1 - Water to blood
2 - Frogs
3 - Lice (the kind that bites, like mosquito's - not the kind they already struggled with)
4 - Flies
5 - Murrain (livestock sickness affecting mainly cattle and other large live stock)
6 - Boils (and they are the most prominent where you don't want them...)
7 - Hail, heavy lightning and fire
8 - Locusts
9 - Darkness
10 - Death of the first born

Since the Psalms are songs and their writers were not required to cover every last detail of the events they sang about, the statement on "evil angels" can cover some of the other plagues, but let's see if we can narrow it down:
1 - v44
2 - v45
3 - v45? (divers kinds of flies?)
4 - v45
5 - v50
6 - no direct mention
7 - v47-48
8 - v46
9 - no direct mention
10 - v50

Since Moses specifically mentions "the destroyer" we can safely assume we are dealing with euphamisms for the devil and his angels for multiple plagues, but especially the final one.

Now, theologically, this does make people uncomfortable, because it looks like GOD is acting no better than the devil, but you have to understand a few things here:
 - The Egyptians of this time worshiped idols. Paul tells us that sacrificing to idols is sacrificing to demons. The Egyptians invited them in. (1 Corinthians 10:20)
 - Israel got the first of the plagues for the same reason (they wouldn't let go of Egypt's idols, Ezekiel 20:6-10) and Egypt had this example to listen - some did as we see with the hail plague (Exodus 9:20).
 - GOD does allow demons and even sometimes the devil himself to cause harm because of sin, but takes responsibility for it and rewards for whatever HE allows outside of sin (Exodus 12:12 & 23, 1 Kings 22:22, Job 1, Job 42:11, 1 Samuel 16:14).

With this info, we can safely assume serious demonic influence in some of the plagues, if not all.

This has serious implications for the look of the last plague from when I did the storyboards. Honestly, I don't know how far I am willing to push the visual, because I know how easily it can become an open door, but at the same time, GOD covers HIS Work and has the enemy on a very short leash. Thankfully there is plenty of work before I get to the last plague!

- Better fields
Speaking of, I got more info on Egypt and I consequently got more images and I really feel that my fields are lacking... The biggest issue for me is not the ground level, but the detail. A lot can be done with textures, but you can't really fake the kind of detail I'm talking about - where water forms pools in the rows of the fields in one corner. I want it to be really good and so for close-up shots, I'll have to make some special smaller shots and carefully choose which ones they will be.

As an aside, I'm still looking into getting a painterly background working... It won't be for Exodus, since the look is locked, but research never stops! Development never stops!

Speaking of development - I did work on a halftone post processing node and it looks awesome!!!!! I cannot wait to share it with you guys, GOD ROCKS! In the meantime, this post is it! :D

Have a super day!!
GOD bless you!
