Citizens afloat

Hey all!

This week's vlog!

GOD is super awesome!

- Same day
Some of you may remember on the previous video, that the aim was to finish the characters and add them to the city the same day. Yeah, I really underestimated the amount of work that was left to get them ready for that, haha. Some of the characters didn't have expressions. I had to see whether the shapekeys were maintained as they were made single objects. I had surprises from modifiers. Goodness, there was a lot of challenges this week concerning the citizens, but in the end, GOD helped me get them in and I absolutely adore the result! Thank YOU LORD!
Like I mentioned, I still need to get the temple/veranda fixed in the final project and add some dust to the walkways for a touch of realism.

- Tutorials
Technically, only one is a full tutorial, while the other is more like a quick tip. I've been itching to do another tutorial for a while and GOD hasn't allowed it, because of all the work that has to get done on the Exodus project, but I am so thankful I was allowed to do one last night!! Check out the New Style Candle tutorial!

Isn't GOD just the best!! :D

In addition to this one, I also got to do a quick tip, based on the same example video. I have been mystified by the whole character interacting with object premise (in this case, picking up an object) and when GOD finally revealed it to me, I was over the moon! You will not believe how simple it really is and you don't even need physics for it, which means no baking! A total must watch for a quick tip!

JESUS rules!

- Hebrew characters
This week, I finally got to start with them! I only have two male characters (unfinished) so far, but they already have expressions - they, and their clothes, just need modification. For the female characters, I'm probably gonna have to go back to the Make Human step, to generate a woman and child with less Egyptian features as the others do. We'll see what GOD wants when I get to it - everyday is an adventure (not always easy, but definitely never boring!)

- Citizens floating
This was a serious challenge! Blender has an amazing particle system - it really does. I am very impressed with how well it works, but, when it comes to really low detail objects and group particle emission, it needs some refinement. Controlling masses of objects is not easy and I want you to know that I'm not complaining about the issue - it just came up. When I got the characters in the scene and into the particle system, they were floating! haha.
Depending on the size of your characters to the surface they'll be standing on, this may be a varying problem, but in this case, they are puny in relation to their emission object, so it was obvious! hahaha.
Take it from me, rather use hair as your emission method if you want to distribute very very small characters using a particle system or just keep the camera far away and moving! hahaha.

Like I mentioned, that is it for this week!

Biggest thanx to GOD for helping me with this. Without HIM, none of this would be possible! :D

About Me

Marius Oberholster Hey all! I've been doing CG work full-time since 2011. GOD has been with me, supported me and taught me all the way. HE tells us to do all things as unto the LORD and that is my goal. I do whatever I believe the HOLY SPIRIT is leading me to do and it's not always easy, but it's always worth it to be obedient! JESUS is awesome!! If you don't know HIM yet, follow the link above!
