Cantillation

Hey all!
This week's vlog!

GOD is beyond words!!! Just wow!!

 - Musical options
Generally, most movies would get someone to do what is known as scoring. When you score something, it can be a goal too, but not in music, haha. In music, you are simply writing the coordination for a symphony or orchestra or whatever set you envision for the particular part of the film or production.
In my case, this comes down to me. I have basically 0 experience in writing for a symphony. After Exodus I will have at least a little, hahaha. This week's focus came down to looking for solutions to the lack of melody dilemma.
Not that this is a new issue. I've shared last week how I still needed to go look into Moses' song at the sea (Exodus 15) and that happened this week. One of the songs I mentioned I would embed, is this one:

Thank YOU LORD! So beautiful!

At some points it sounds like her voice is a bit softer and then she comes with that fullness. Just luv that surprise every time it comes through.

Here is my playlist of version of the song at the sea (I tried embedding it, but it only embeds a single video...):

 - Cantillation
Most of what is in the playlist is what is known as Cantillation or Trope. This is the practice of chanting or "reading" the Torah. There are symbols in some of the transcriptions that show you how to chant it.
From a Biblical stand point, there is no clear origin (that I've read anyway). The practice dates back (according to the Koltor Corp software) 2300BC. That is a very old tradition and according to the Symposium video, it has been quite consistent over the centuries and has been written down periodically since the Renaissance - which was used to measure the changes over time.
Cantillation is usually without musical accompaniment and is considered a very very complicated and difficult thing to master. I can understand that, because you would have to basically respond like a sampler would. Where you see the symbol, you need to sing a sample with the words that you see before you.

I am not new to this process. There is a project I have recorded for:
http://www.musicofthebible.com/

Unfortunately because of my lack of notation skills, I messed up on a large part of the recordings (I depended solely on the electronic voice, which has many harmonies and most of the time, I went with the wrong one, haha). Since then, I transcribed them first in a MIDI package, learned the pitch with that and then recorded. Haven't heard back from Dennis and he obviously didn't use what I sent him. No hard feelings of course - I was extremely inconsistent. I still want to do all of them. At this point, I have sent him 5 completed Psalms (136, 150, 23, 117, 146) (vocals and mixes - 23 I did to learn the proper pronunciation, because Yakov did such a stunning job and I felt a bit lost), but there are still a few to do. Soooooo many great things there are to do, so little time.

After listening to those just now (sorry, don't have permission to share or post them), I really want to chant Exodus 15 or possibly portions from 7-12 where appropriate to add them. Definitely want to do Exodus 15 as a finish, but will leave that to the HOLY SPIRIT to lead me to or away from.

I do encourage you to check out Joshua's presentation from the Cantillation Symposium. There are so few voices like his! It was so amazing to listen to and I know you'll luv it too! The history is interesting too, hahaha.

 - Setting to music
Now there is of course the English only route as well, where I could simply set the song at that sea to music. The problem is that it's neither simple not quick, haha. I have never successfully put anything to music, so this is a very new process for me. I haven't written much in the line of original music either. The closest to that would be the original arrangements on my channel of Public Domain hymns. Still so much to learn.

As a bonus, here is another embedding of an amazing song!

Thank YOU LORD JESUS!!

If you want to know who sang it, it's Jonathan Settel. What a voice!!!!!!! GOD is so amazing!!!

This week has been a tremendous learning experience and I cannot thank the LORD enough for all of it!
Thank you for reading!

Biggest thanx to GOD for helping me with this. Without HIM, none of this would be possible! :D
