Week of testing

Hey all!
This week's vlog!

GOD is just wow!!

  - Anime Metal
Without a doubt one of the hardest materials to produce for a flat shaded look, I really learned a lot about the approach to metal in anime and the results are super surprising!
Shockingly, in most cases, you were just looking at the equivalent of a diffuse shader or even more alarming, a shadeless one! In almost every situation from the 80's, you would find that metal is purely metal, because it is metal - often times, at the most...

Hey all!
This week's vlog!

GOD is super!

  - Massive Speed boost
This is one has me a little frazzled to be honest, hahaha. Blender has the weirdest issues sometimes. When I work in the compositor. The 2D compositing takes a second, if not less. With the 3D node in the project, it takes approx 48 seconds to convert the final 2D composite to 3D with the depth map. That means, a 2:29 render, takes 3:18 to complete. If I make a clean project with only the 3D node and I use image sequences for the...

Hey all!
This week's vlog!

GOD is so cool!!

 - Anime backgrounds and 3D
This is one I have been battling with for a very very very very very long time. While GOD has certainly given me a lot of ways to get closer and closer to the look, I think we have to face up to a few things, just to get some perspective here (I've spoken about at least some of them before):

 - Humans interpret
Something I've heard a while ago is that your brain doesn't store images, but information and when you recall so...

Magicians get owned

Hey all!
This week's vlog!

GOD is so wonderful!!! Just wow!!

 - Keeping track
I don't recall ever having spoken of organization as it relates to a project like this, but GOD has certainly shown me that my organizational skills for media need some sharpening. It's not always just about naming things (though that is extremely important to make sure you don't waste time looking for things), but it is also about the discipline to keep your hard drive clean and garbage free. In other words - don't ...

Magicians take action

Posted by Marius Oberholster on Thursday, August 3, 2017, In : WIP
Hey all!
This week's vlog!

GOD is beyond words!!! Just wow!!

 - Technical is not the word
I already spoke on this in the video, but briefly, so I can elaborate here. Last week I had two re-renders. The one was for the flickering chairs behind Moses and Aaron and the other was the scene where the magicians appear in a cloud of smoke. While these are amazing shots, the magicians one needed a little something more. It was a bit lack luster. While the luster is restored using this transitional eff...

About Me

Marius Oberholster Hey all! I've been doing CG work full-time since 2011. GOD has been with me, supported me and taught me all the way. HE tells us to do all things as unto the LORD and that is my goal. I do whatever I believe the HOLY SPIRIT is leading me to do and it's not always easy, but it's always worth it to be obedient! JESUS is awesome!! If you don't know HIM yet, follow the link above!
