Altar aid

Hey all!

This week's vlog!!

GOD is so awesome!

 - A Quiet week
This week I spent very little time on Exodus. Not tons less than usual, but I just got to spend some time on other stuff as well. Even mowed the grass for the probably last time this season! This week will hopefully have a lot more than just more visual aid! :D

 - The 430 years puzzle
Now this was interesting! I was lying in bed on Saturday and GOD brought this up with me, as I was reading Galatians again and was specifically at chapter 3 Friday night. On Saturday morning, I googled for the timelines for Levi and Jochebed, because I know that I know, GOD's Word is perfect. If HE stated that it was 430 years to the day, it was 430 years to the day and if we can't find the how, it certainly means we need to look more, not try to change GOD's Word.

There was one study that suggested that a variation of manuscripts, that added to Moses' words, would make the whole thing make sense, but that was not compiled into the KJV. The KJV, which I believe, as Kent Hovind showed in his personal studies of scripture, that it is certainly GOD's preserved Word in the English language - therefore, if someone says that something isn't in there, I believe it has no business being in there and we don't get to add to it, just because our figures don't add up as we've done them. If our figures don't add up, GOD's Word is not at fault, our calculations are. This is based on the accuracy HIS Word already shows, not "it's because it's GOD's Word we should believe whatever it says" - no, it deserves this level of honor, because HE has proven that HE does not lie, since we know that, if our figures don't make sense, the fault is with us, not GOD.

Here is Kent's video on why the KJV:

(segment, but full answer on why the KJV)
Full seminar video it was taken from, includes a few other cool things.

(starts at 9:30)
Great to know we have over 5000 accurate manuscripts in many different languages! :D

Now here is where it gets interesting. As I mentioned, I was looking to piece together this timeline and I needed Levi's age, as he was part of the generation that came to Egypt and I came across this (I believe totally by divine appointment!!!):

WOW!!!!! - doesn't quite convey how cool this study is. It clearly accounts for the full 430 years perfectly!! GOD is awesome! It didn't bother me so much, but I remember doing some calculations and looking for answers (remember all of Joseph's calculations) and honestly, this one, though seemingly strange (years of child's birth, and the death of the father being the same), is certainly not impossible. Just see how old Abraham was when he got children, or how common it is for fathers to pass away before the children are of age.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posthumous_birth
Not all that uncommon (regardless of the reasons for the death, since we're not given a COD in scripture for everyone).

Of the few studies I have read on this topic, the start of the 430 at Abraham, doesn't hold water to scripture, since it says that they were afflicted for 400 years. Meaning they had peace for 30. There was a lot more than 30 years of peace after Abraham and before Egyptian bondage ever came into the picture. For me personally, the only one I've read that fits, is the above. Also, there are verses in Galatians 3 that people tend to fight over that's a little on the vague side:

"Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise."
Galatians 3:16-18, KJV.

"was confirmed before of God in Christ" may also refer to the time GOD spoke to Jacob in a dream, confirming his promise of multiplication and bringing them out again (Genesis 46:1-4), also, remember that Jacob is a figure of CHRIST (Exodus 4:22).

That certainly can allow for the full 430 years after the covenant confirmed before GOD in CHRIST (also fits the study above and I felt led that way before I ever found the study).

I knew GOD would give an answer to this conundrum, haha :D!
YOU Rule LORD!!!! YOUR Word is inerrant!

 - The Altar
Of course, like you've seen last week, I was led to use some visual aid for Moses, to make the speaking more interesting, so I got started on that this week. The altar has a surprisingly realistic look to it. I wanted to just make it look somewhat like rocks, so it can be more painterly. I really do like the result!

The coolest part is the smoke though! I tried again and again to get a particle system looking right. I have had more success in the past using particle systems, but before even making it, GOD showed me HE wanted it to be a solid mesh. Unfortunately I didn't listen as I should've and consequently wasted some time. Please don't do that - if GOD leads you a certain way, do it HIS way, because you will save yourself a lot of time!

The smoke comes from a test video from a few years ago (as in the actual mesh and function). Back then I also tried to use particles and it just didn't work at all (for me, though I have seen working examples)... You are welcome to check out that video again:

GOD is super awesome!

Fire and light are tricky aspects when it comes to these things. From previous photos and references of the altar in the outer court of the tent of meeting, the altar can be both a raised pit and it can be a stack. Generally, I think the stack theory makes a lot of sense, because it's also supposed to lift up whatever is being offered - just like JESUS was for our sin! :D
This of course would mean that you would always clearly see the sacrifice (if on top), but also the flames, fuel for the fire, etc.
In this case, because they hadn't yet received the command to go sacrifice, yet clearly understood sacrifice if you look at the covenant GOD made with Abraham, you do sit with a few choices and in this case, I felt led to go for a mixed route - stack, but slightly sunk top, so you can still get the glow from the fire and great smoke movement without the excessive detail!

 - Scripting the KJV
In some ways, we have covered this before, but I really do feel led to add a point here - the Bible is in many ways already written in such a way that you can turn it into anything that can be used to communicate. The difficulty comes in with the research. You will be amazed at some of the details contained in the Word of GOD, just because they recorded things accurately! The problem for me comes with a lack of specificity in some cases, like the method for the baking of the unleavened bread (wouldn't be considered an important detail for contemporaries, because it would be a common method or set of methods) and there are no quotation marks in the KJV, nor in Hebrew (as far as I know). This sometimes makes it kinda hard to tell when a quote stops.
Be that as it may, this week some attention went to doing this with the actual text. Taking the dialogue and writing it as dialogue and leaving the rest as stage/screen direction. If you check it with the KJV, you'll see the only changes were in format - the information is still the same. Moses is still speaking to Pharaoh when he is and GOD is still speaking to whom HE is speaking, events, order, etc.

 - Voice actors
Yeah, I just have to cave on this and ask. Again, it's not because I don't want voice actors - I would just prefer to pay them in order to drastically reduce the chance of someone bailing on me. Recording 12 pages doesn't seem like a lot, but it actually is.
I tried using a voice changing plugin this week, but honestly, the quality of it will do more harm than good (it's got that just-off-the-station crackle and honestly, that's not going to do GOD's Word the justice it deserves)... I would much rather have real people doing it. The plan is to e-mail those I have in mind today and pass them the script I showed you guys in the video and so on. Scary to be in the director's seat, but I really think this needs doing in order to get this right!

About Me

Marius Oberholster Hey all! I've been doing CG work full-time since 2011. GOD has been with me, supported me and taught me all the way. HE tells us to do all things as unto the LORD and that is my goal. I do whatever I believe the HOLY SPIRIT is leading me to do and it's not always easy, but it's always worth it to be obedient! JESUS is awesome!! If you don't know HIM yet, follow the link above!
