3D Switch

Hey all!
This week's vlog!

GOD is so great!

  - 3D methods come together
    Last week I got to share with you guys how GOD gave me a new 3D method that gives supremely sharp results. Of course, it still has a few catches, but it certainly produces! Anyway, this week I saw for the first time that GOD knew I needed it, before I knew I needed it (nothing new there, hahaha).
   The shot where the magicians face the camera needed to be sharp in order to get a sense of space. Yes, they do kinda look like cutouts (that's how the method works), but it was so sharp and the old method couldn't cope with the shot very well... In fact, it looks pretty terrible. You could say that where one looked awful, the other looked great and vice versa, haha.
   The coolest part was where I had to switch to the new method in order to have the pot shatter be as crisp and sharp as possible and that transition I felt led to make as the pot was the only object in the scene (apart from the background) and wow was that GOD's leading! It worked so well that even in 3D and out of 3D, I can't tell where the transition point is!!!!! GOD is so awesome!!! See for yourself in the video!
   I am beyond thankful for this week's 3D work! It was tough, but GOD made sure I had the tools I needed to get the job done and done well!

 - Some issues
   In the video I do talk about some challenges in the video, and I am glad I got to address them, so I'm not going to dig into them here. Fault finding doesn't take much effort in a fallen world, but celebrating good is a choice! :)

 - Solution to the water
   I was literally at the point of giving up on the pot and letting it be the way it is (see last week's video especially on this). I was, I wasn't given a great method and was just going to have the water turn out with it's flow-stop-flow look, until after posting the vlog. I don't even remember what I was doing when GOD gave me, what I would call, the water wheel texture method. It was such a gift! I tried it a very short while after and it worked beautifully! Of course, the empty had to be properly aligned with the water stream, but once it was, the textures just flowed beautifully over the surface (as you saw in the final shot). I am so glad I got to share that solution with you guys!

   I do have to add though that this was not my first run-in with horrible texturing problems. Quite a while ago, I realized that the fluid sim is honestly not the best way to handle water in 3D (small scale water that is) and I wanted to make a fountain for some reason. Don't recall why. It was probably one of the first things I would say I got direct leading from GOD on how to do something in Blender. It was so so so so so awesome!! I want to share that post with you guys here - it's a must read.

Following the post, I was also led to make my first video tutorial where I actually spoke and was that scary or what!!! So I made two videos talking about how to handle difficult texturing situations just like the fountain. Be sure to check those out here:

GOD is so wonderful - doing this video was scary...!

GOD is so good - this one was better, haha!

 - Gore and realism
   Now, gore is a very strong word as it relates to Exodus. When I made the initial test, I was so excited about the result, but when I wanted to use it in the thumbnail, I had a feeling like: "Goodness... that's blood... (o.o) #notgonnahappen" hahaha
I didn't want to add it. Blood is extremely precious and it is immensely valuable. GOD put the life in the blood, so if you lose all your blood, you ain't got no more life in you. Yes, when you pass away you do still have your blood, but it just means the life in you left the blood and went back to GOD for judgment - I do talk about that in the end of the post every week, so you can check that out too. :)

Anyway, gore is typically something that refers to huge levels of violence and no sparing on the blood. In fact, there is extra. I don't want exodus to be marred by the "shedding of blood" if I can put it that way. I don't want to gross people out and I don't want to be grossed out either. The way it is atm, is fine, but going beyond it, is excessive. That's the leading I am getting atm. If GOD changes HIS mind on it, it will obviously show later, but HIS goal isn't to chase away, it's to draw you near. HE loves you, yes you reading this, and HE want you to enjoy this video, not be freaked out by it! hahaha.

For the sake of getting the message across, it is what it is right now, but thankfully, it's not about realism, so we don't have to go all out on things like this.

 - Foley
   Flies - I haven't been able to locate a swarm of flies (I don't typically hang around rotton things, like most people don't, hahaha). So I have to do something else for the fly sound. The best things I have been led to check out so far, have been:
* Bees:
They typically have a strong low end, because of their size and their wing size, so adjusting the pitch might work.

* Zipper scraping:
Not exactly the same thing, but can certainly get close to the buzzing sound that flys make, assuming the zipper is large enough and rough enough to make a more low-end sound. I have read about blowing on the edge of a piece of paper, but I'm not really looking for a kazoo sound. Close, but not quite. The zipper seems closer imo...
   I have had the opportunity to record a fly in my parents' bathroom, but my phone's mics are not sensitive enough to pick up the fly buzzing around the otherwise perfectly quiet room... Zipper scraping is at least for now the best solution. We'll see though! Lot's to do still!

   Fire - With the real fire I was able to record, I can encourage you to use a plastic bag for the crackle sound (at least for dry stuble fire). If you slowly crumple it and reduce it's speed to reduce the pitch a bit, you get the real thing.
You can also record a kettle and just up the low end of the sound. That will also give you that popcorn-clap type sound with very similar patterns. And like most recommend, bubble rap is also perfect for a wood fire (like a camp fire).

   Snakes, frogs, etc - Still have to research these...

Anyhow, that is it for this week's post - a lot got done this week, so I am just so thankful for everyone who reads, comments and watches! Thank you!

Biggest thanx to GOD for helping me with this. Without HIM, none of this would be possible! :D
